If there was one thing that was common to most smartphone brands in 2019, it was to pack as many megapixels as possible into the phone’s cameras. It is not as if these two tech giants hadn’t launched new phones, but had kept their simple cameras on paper but extremely powerful inside. So how did Apple and Google deliver cameras without the megapixel blitzkrieg like the others? Two words: computational photography.

The way other brands seem to fall from each other to offer users so many megapixels can lead to believe that it is the beginning and end of all smartphone photography.

The reality is that megapixels are only part of the package and not the package itself.

The Apple iPhone still has a 12 MP sensor camera, three of which are in the 11 Pro series and two in the iPhone 11.
